The South West of France—for me, that means the Landes region and the French Basque Country, or rather everything between Seignosse and Saint-Jean-de-Luz—is a part of Europe where I have spent much time over the years. I have lived in Hossegor for three months during my studies, and I have come back to this region again and again, more times than I can count now.
The Landes and the Basque Country are two very different looking but very beutiful parts of France which have shaped me as a photographer at least as much as Nazaré. It was where I swam with my camera for the first time, shooting surfing from the water rather than from teh beach, it was where I froze my hands off capturing the clear and icy cold winter morning colours, and where I spent countless mornings and evening at the beach, marveling at the sky and the waves.
